HOW TO AVOID FAKE LOCKSMITHS

Choosing a Locksmith should never be a gamble. Unfortunately, many customers only discover the difference between a genuine locksmith and a call-centre operation after they have been overcharged or received poor workmanship. These simple checks can help you choose a trustworthy Locksmith.

The Rise of Copycat Locksmith Websites

"We were trading as Islington Locksmiths when customers found us in the Yellow Pages, decades before Google, websites or online directories existed."

When we began trading in Islington in 1977, a locksmith's reputation was built through word of mouth, local recommendations and years of dependable service........The internet changed that.

Over the years, numerous Locksmith websites have appeared using business names that closely resemble our own. Many customers have contacted us believing they were dealing with our long-established company, only to discover they had reached an entirely different business.

We believe that some of these businesses have deliberately adopted similar names in order to benefit from the reputation and trust that Islington Locksmiths has built over nearly five decades.

This has created confusion for customers and made it increasingly difficult for genuine long-established local businesses to stand out amongst newer operators using similar branding and trading styles.

When choosing a Locksmith, we encourage customers to look beyond a single online listing and consider factors such as:

1. Length of time trading

A long-established business has a reputation to protect. Look for evidence of genuine trading history rather than simply a recently created website.

2. Independent customer reviews

Choose a locksmith with genuine local connections and a consistent presence within the community they claim to serve.

3. Local reputation

Look for reviews that mention reliability, professionalism and long-term customer relationships rather than generic praise.

4. Evidence of genuine trading history

A professional locksmith should be happy to discuss likely costs before starting work and explain any variables involved.

5. Physical business presence

Established locksmiths tend to have consistent company names, branding, phone numbers and contact information.

6. Industry experience

An experienced locksmith should be able to explain lock types, security standards and available solutions clearly.

7. Check Their Website

A quality website should provide useful information about services, history and local expertise rather than relying on generic content.

8. Trust Your Instincts

If something feels unclear or inconsistent, take time to ask questions before proceeding.

What Happened to Our Google Maps Listing?

Many long-term customers will remember that Islington Locksmiths had an established Google Maps presence with hundreds of customer reviews accumulated over many years.

These reviews reflected the experiences of genuine local customers and represented countless jobs completed throughout Islington and the surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, our Google Business Profile has repeatedly disappeared from Google Maps over the years.

In our view, this has not happened by accident.

We believe that businesses operating under similar names have a commercial incentive to see our listing removed. When customers search for "Islington Locksmiths", the absence of our long-established profile creates opportunities for newer businesses using similar names to attract enquiries that might otherwise have come directly to us.

As a result, many customers searching online today are unaware that the original Islington Locksmiths has been serving the community since 1977.

Whilst we continue to challenge these removals whenever possible, our focus remains on serving our customers and preserving the history of our business.

The Reviews Have Not Disappeared

Although our Google Maps presence has been repeatedly affected, the feedback left by our customers over the years has not been forgotten.

Before our profile disappeared, we retained screenshots of many of the reviews that customers had left for us.

These reviews provide an important record of the trust that local residents, businesses, landlords and property managers placed in our company over many years.

We invite visitors to view our Reviews Page, where they can see examples of the feedback we received from genuine customers.

The removal of an online listing does not erase decades of customer satisfaction, thousands of completed jobs or nearly fifty years of service to the people of Islington.

Our Online Presence and Google Maps

As more customers began searching online for locksmith services, Google Maps and Google Business Profiles became an important way for local businesses to connect with their communities.

We were amongst the earliest locksmith businesses in Islington to establish a presence on Google Maps and over the years accumulated hundreds of customer reviews from local residents and businesses who had used our services.

Unfortunately, our Google Business Profile has repeatedly disappeared from Google Maps despite being associated with a long-established Islington locksmith business. As a result, customers who search for us online may not always find our official listing.

While we cannot comment on the reasons behind Google's decisions or the actions of third parties, the repeated loss of our Google Maps presence has made it more difficult for customers to identify our genuine long-established business amongst the many similarly named locksmith websites operating online today.

Because of this, we have preserved screenshots and records of many of the reviews that customers have left for us over the years. These can be viewed on our Reviews page and provide an important historical record of the feedback we have received from local customers.

The loss of a Google listing does not remove nearly fifty years of trading history, thousands of satisfied customers, or our longstanding connection with the Islington community.
